Academic Scholarships 2027

Coogee Boys’ Preparatory School is proud to announce the introduction of Academic Scholarships for entry into Year 3 and Year 5 for 2027.

These scholarships are open exclusively to external applicants who demonstrate established academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and high academic potential across a range of learning areas.

Scholarship Duration

  • Year 3 Entry (2027): Covers partial tuition fees from Year 3 until the end of Year 4.
  • Year 5 Entry (2027): Covers partial tuition fees from Year 5 until the end of Year 6.

Scholarships are awarded based on a candidate’s performance in specialised diagnostic testing conducted by Academic Assessment Services (AAS), followed by an interview with shortlisted candidates, provided all general conditions of enrolment are met.

  • External Applicants Only: These scholarships are open exclusively to students not currently enrolled at Coogee Boys’ Preparatory School.

Value & Conditions of Fee Reductions

Scholarship awards provide a partial tuition fee reduction, typically between 25% and 50%.

  • Exclusions: Additional costs, including school uniforms, textbooks, devices, excursions, camp fees, and consolidated charges, are not covered by the scholarship.
  • Selection: The value of each scholarship may vary based on candidate caliber. Coogee Prep reserves the right to withhold a scholarship if no candidate reaches the required benchmark of merit.
  • Review: Scholarships are subject to annual review and are tenable for the duration specified (Years 3–4 or Years 5–6), contingent upon the student maintaining high academic standards, active participation, and exemplary conduct.

Examination Structure

Testing is managed independently by Academic Assessment Services (AAS). The diagnostic suite measures aptitude and reasoning rather than simple curriculum memory:

  1. General Reasoning & Problem Solving: Evaluates verbal, mathematical, figural, and spatial reasoning capabilities.
  2. Mathematical Achievement & Reasoning: Assesses advanced mathematical thinking and non-routine problem-solving skills.
  3. Reading Comprehension: Evaluates the ability to interpret, analyse, and combine ideas across a range of complex texts.
  4. Written Expression (25 minutes): Assesses command of language, creative thought, and structure using a prompt in a specific genre.

All components are approximately 40–50 minutes in length, with the exception of Written Expression.

Registration Fees

  • Testing is conducted independently by AAS.
  • A registration fee of $120 is payable directly to Academic Assessment Services upon registration.

Offer & Interview Process

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by phone or email following the testing date to attend an interview with the Scholarship Selection Panel, which includes the Principal, Deputy Head, and Admissions Team.

Formal letters regarding the outcome of scholarship applications will be sent to families following the completion of the interview process.

Please note: Coogee Prep does not provide feedback or release specific score breakdown reports regarding examination performance or interview outcomes. Scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the Principal, and decisions are final.

Acceptance Deposit

A $1,500 Scholarship Acceptance Deposit is required upon accepting a scholarship offer. Should the student’s enrolment be cancelled or withdrawn prior to commencing at Coogee Prep, this deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.
